If you have lost teeth or have to have teeth extracted, there are several options for replacing them. While implants have become more popular in recent years, dentures are still a good option for many people. Today’s dentures appear very natural, and many people cannot tell the difference between them and natural teeth. Here at Aspire Dental Spa, we regularly assist patients with both partial and complete dentures.

What Are Partial And Complete Dentures?

Missing teeth can be more than just an embarrassment. When you lose a tooth, the teeth on either side of it lose the support it provided. They can begin shifting out of position, and eventually, you may lose those teeth, too. Partial dentures will prevent this from happening. They are useful when you are missing one or more teeth in a row and do not need the rest of your teeth extracted. Complete dentures, on the other hand, are designed to fully replace your teeth. You may need a full denture for your upper teeth, your lower teeth, or both.

Modern dentures are typically made out of a strong, durable resin. This resin looks very similar to natural teeth and the dentures are designed to be comfortable and easy to wear.

The Denture Process

Whether you need full or partial dentures, the process of creating them is the same. First, we get impressions of your mouth and carefully map it out. This allows the lab to create a pair of dentures that perfectly fits you and recreates your teeth. We perform any extractions that need to be done. You will then need to take time to fully heal before we can continue fitting your dentures.

When you have healed and your dentures are ready, we will teach you how to put your dentures in and check to see if they fit correctly. If they do not, we will have them adjusted. We may be able to make minor adjustments right away, while larger adjustments may require us to return the dentures to the lab.

We may have you come in for a follow-up visit after a set period of time to make certain the dentures are not rubbing on your gums. We also want to make certain you are not in any discomfort or have any concerns. You should be able to speak and eat without any problems.

Who Should Get Dentures?

In addition to causing teeth to shift, missing teeth can also make it difficult to chew and eat certain foods. If many of your teeth are either missing or have been worn down, it can change your bite and can greatly affect your self-confidence. Dentures can change this. Even if you are only missing a few teeth, getting partial dentures will help keep your healthy teeth intact and make it easier to eat.

Dentures are not the only replacement option, but they can typically be used by everyone. Implants, on the other hand, are not always an option for everyone.
